Why Return to Valheim with Friends for the 1.0 Deep North?

  1. Thrilling blizzards and frost-fortress sieges: The Deep North's cold goes beyond the earlier Mountains. Without special cold-resistant runes and warming equipment, you continually lose health and may freeze. Ancient frost-giant fortresses cover the map, requiring your squad to cut trees and build catapults and battering rams on site, then push heavy weapons into the stronghold like a medieval epic.
  2. An ultimate boss and coordinated squad roles: Summoning the world's final monster creates a spectacular fight with very little room for solo error. One teammate must block and absorb damage with a tower shield, mages cast area ice and fire spells from behind, ranged attackers exploit weak points, and support players distribute the highest-tier Nordic mead for health and stamina.
  3. A treat for base builders: Many new northern ice-crystal building materials and ancient rune decorations let you create an enormous Viking longhouse by the sea or a frost fortress on sheer cliffs with striking results.

Avoiding Pitfalls: Why Set Up a Dedicated Server?

Valheim's detailed physics calculates the forces on supporting beams, smoke and chimney routes, and collisions among hundreds or thousands of building pieces in real time. If a player's computer hosts the world, a large base or fortress battle can turn it into a space heater and leave everyone drifting through slideshow-like lag. A separate dedicated server moves those heavy calculations away from the host:

An Easier Way to Manage Your Squad's Server

Find handwritten batch commands tedious? We recommend our open-source LanGame Server Manager (LGSM) (GitHub: SZSLGJCOM/LanGame-Server-Manager). LGSM provides one-click start and stop, a simple checkbox to remove metal-teleport restrictions, and fully automated world-save backups, protecting against trolls smashing your base or unexpected power cuts damaging saves.

Playing Across Networks Smoothly

  • With a public IP at home: Forward UDP ports 2456–2458 on your router. Teammates can choose Join Game -> Direct Connect and enter public-IP:2456 to join.
  • Without a public IP on rental networks or behind multiple NAT layers: There is no need to buy an expensive game accelerator. Use the LINK feature in LanGame OS Orbit to invite teammates into the same encrypted virtual LAN room and connect through the virtual IP, with low latency and no packet loss. Set out for the Deep North tonight!
