Game Picks | Leave Lone-Wolf Run-and-Gun Behind: Squad's ICO and Practical 50v50 Battle Servers

Explore Squad's Infantry Combat Overhaul: weapon inertia and suppression, squad radio command, Forward Operating Base construction, and dedicated battle server setup.

Tired of slide-jumping gunplay and lone players instantly wiping whole teams in fast-paced shooters? If you want real tactical coordination, squad-leader radio orders, and mutual cover under deafening heavy-machine-gun suppression, Squad may be your destination! The official Infantry Combat Overhaul (ICO) greatly strengthens weapon inertia, scope parallax, and the severe visual blur caused by incoming fire. It eliminates lone-wolf run-and-gun play and returns the game to coordinated infantry and armor tactics!

Why Does Squad After ICO Set Such a High Bar for Co-op Communication?

  1. Suppressive fire has real tactical impact: Even bullets passing overhead without hitting cause serious aim shake, darkened peripheral vision, and lost focus under ICO, preventing enemies from aiming back effectively. Machine gunners suppressing cover while assault troops flank becomes the squad's essential route to victory.
  2. Forward Operating Bases and combat-engineer construction: The leader places a radio near the front, and engineers build sandbag defenses, heavy-machine-gun nests, TOW anti-tank launchers, and mortar positions around it. Logistics trucks ferry ammunition and construction supplies under fire. A well-placed FOB can change the entire battle's balance of attack and defense!
  3. 50v50 combined-arms coordination: Infantry platoons call on main battle tanks to breach obstacles with direct high-explosive fire; armored vehicles carry troops into rapid assaults; Black Hawk or Mi-8 transport helicopters carry out vertical rope evacuations in forest clearings. Dozens of friends executing orders on dedicated radio channels make tactical success rewarding!

Avoiding Pitfalls: Why Set Up a Dedicated Tactical Server?

As a hardcore military simulation supporting 100 players, Squad does not support hosting a personal game session. A separate dedicated server must handle high-frequency ballistic calculations and vehicle synchronization across the map:

  • Server AppID: 403240 (anonymous SteamCMD download)
  • Core communication ports: UDP 7787 (main game communication), UDP 27165 (lobby queries), and TCP 21114 (RCON administration)
  • Configuration file: Server.cfg (battle rotation, ticket rules, team balance, and commander permissions)
  • Complete setup guide: For detailed server tuning, see Squad Dedicated Server Setup and Server.cfg Tactical Configuration.

An Easier Way to Manage Your Squad's Server

We recommend our open-source LanGame Server Manager (LGSM) (GitHub: SZSLGJCOM/LanGame-Server-Manager). LGSM's Squad template provides one-click downloads of the latest server updates, automatic avoidance of port conflicts, and high Tickrate support, keeping play smooth even when 100 players fire together!

Playing Across Networks and Joining the Server

  • With a public IP: Forward UDP ports 7787/27165 on your router. Team members can search for your tactical server in the main-menu lobby or enter connect public-IP:7787 in the console.
  • On a private network or team connection: Team members can open the LINK feature in LanGame OS Orbit, enter a private encrypted tactical room, and connect using the generated virtual network adapter IP. The high-speed encrypted P2P tunnel offers zero packet loss on a hundred-player battlefield!
