Game Picks | Taking on Zombie Hordes from Above: HumanitZ Squad Survival and Persistent Servers

An isometric open-world HumanitZ co-op guide: collecting vehicles, running a base, defending against zombie hordes, and setting up a dedicated server.

If you enjoy Project Zomboid's meticulous scavenging and realistic apocalypse but want more direct real-time shooting and vehicle-based combat, HumanitZ may be just what you need! This hardcore open-world zombie-survival sandbox uses an isometric view. Drive a spike-covered wasteland pickup down the highway through zombies, turn a roadside gas station into a defensive fortress with sandbags, barbed wire, and automatic machine guns, or lead a fully armed squad into difficult military bunkers to scavenge weapons. Here is a guide to co-op play and persistent-server pitfalls.

HumanitZ wasteland co-op

Why Is HumanitZ Especially Satisfying in Co-op?

  1. Solid shooting that balances horde-clearing and hardcore survival: From crowbars and fire axes to pump-action shotguns, AR assault rifles, and heavy sniper rifles, weapon feedback and hit detection feel crisp. When hundreds or thousands of running zombies surround your base at night, watching several heavy machine guns blaze away is a satisfying release!
  2. Enjoyable vehicle modifications: Repair stranded pickups, vans, and classic muscle cars and drive them away. Fit steel bumpers, armored doors, and roof-mounted searchlights to turn your squad's vehicle into a mobile combat platform. Fill the trunk with dozens of large crates and empty an entire supermarket.
  3. Running your squad's base: Find a scenic farm or abandoned police station, surround it with tall wooden walls, connect a generator, plant potatoes in the backyard, and hunt deer to create a self-sufficient oasis in the wasteland.

Avoiding Pitfalls: Why Host a Dedicated Server?

Crop growth, generator fuel use, and wilderness respawns continue over time in HumanitZ. If a player's personal computer hosts the game, switching it off kicks everyone else out. A dedicated server running 24 hours a day lets your friends log in and scavenge whenever they like:

An Easier Way to Manage Your Squad's Server

Our open-source LanGame Server Manager (LGSM) (GitHub: SZSLGJCOM/LanGame-Server-Manager) can manage HumanitZ server configuration and backups. Confirm that ports are available before startup, keep a copy of the saves before updating, and check the restore process.

Playing Across Networks and Joining the Server

  • With a public IP: Forward UDP ports 7777/27015 on your router. Friends can enter public-IP:7777 from the main menu to connect directly to your wasteland base.
  • Without a public IP on rental or campus networks: Join the same virtual LAN through the LINK feature in LanGame OS Orbit, then connect using the server's virtual network adapter IP. Your squad should test the connection to confirm actual latency and stability.
