V Rising Dedicated Server Setup and Two JSON Configuration Files Explained

Deploy a V Rising dedicated server: SteamCMD 1829350, UDP 9876/9877 forwarding, ServerHostSettings and ServerGameSettings tuning, removal of teleport item restrictions, and open-source LGSM management.

The V Rising Dedicated Server supports persistent vampire clans while players are offline. It uses two JSON configuration files: ServerHostSettings.json manages host networking and sessions; ServerGameSettings.json manages Castle Heart upkeep, teleport item restrictions, blood quality decay, and combat values. This article covers standard installation and tuning for V Rising servers.

1. Server hardware baseline

Specification 4-player cooperative PVE group 10~20-player clan PVP server
CPU 4 cores / 3.0GHz+ 8 cores / 3.5GHz+
Memory (RAM) 8 GB physical RAM 16 GB physical RAM
Storage 30 GB SSD 80 GB SSD
Upload bandwidth 10 Mbps dedicated 30 Mbps dedicated

2. Install the dedicated server with SteamCMD

Download the dedicated server anonymously through SteamCMD (AppID 1829350):

Shell
steamcmd +login anonymous +app_update 1829350 validate +quit

After the download, the main executable is in the root directory: VRisingServer.exe.

3. Network port planning

Port Protocol Purpose Router forwarding
9876 UDP Main direct client connection (GamePort) Required
9877 UDP Steam/list queries (QueryPort) Required
25575 TCP Remote RCON control (optional) Open as needed

Example startup script (start_server.bat):

Batch
@echo off
set SERVER_DIR=C:\VRisingServer
cd /d "%SERVER_DIR%"

start VRisingServer.exe -persistentDataPath "%SERVER_DIR%\save-data" -serverName "LanGame V Rising Server" -saveName "world1" -logFile "%SERVER_DIR%\logs\VRisingServer.log"

4. The two core JSON files explained

Configuration files are stored under the specified -persistentDataPath: save-data/Settings/

1. Host and network settings: ServerHostSettings.json

JSON
{
  "Name": "LanGame V Rising Server",
  "Description": "Welcome to our vampire realm",
  "Port": 9876,
  "QueryPort": 9877,
  "MaxConnectedUsers": 10,
  "MaxConnectedAdmins": 4,
  "ServerFps": 30,
  "SaveName": "world1",
  "Password": "your_secure_password",
  "Secure": true,
  "ListOnMasterServer": true,
  "AutoSaveInterval": 600
}

2. Gameplay and rules: ServerGameSettings.json

JSON
{
  "GameDifficulty": 1,
  "GameModeType": "PvE",
  "CastleDamageMode": "Never",
  "CastleHeartDamageMode": "CanBeDestroyedOnlyWhenDecaying",
  "DeathContainerPermission": "ClanMembers",
  "RelicSpawnType": "Plentiful",
  "TeleportBoundItems": false,
  "CastleBloodEssenceDrainModifier": 0.5,
  "DayDurationInSeconds": 1080.0
}

Key tuning recommendations:

  • TeleportBoundItems: false removes the vanilla restriction preventing ore/resources from passing through Vampire Waygates, greatly improving group building sessions.
  • CastleBloodEssenceDrainModifier: Castle Blood Essence consumption multiplier. For a group that does not log in daily, lower it to 0.3 ~ 0.5 to prevent heart decay and castle collapse from depleted essence.
  • DayDurationInSeconds: Daylight length in seconds; adjust the cycle of sunlight damage according to preference.

5. Choose an approach: manual configuration or LanGame Server Manager (LGSM)

Manual V Rising maintenance requires working with two JSON files serving different purposes. Punctuation or formatting errors can silently revert the server to default rules.

We recommend the official open-source dedicated server management platform to automate routine administration:

LGSM features:

  1. Unified visual forms for both JSON files: Combines network ports and gameplay rules (heart consumption, teleport restrictions, multipliers) into clear console settings with automatic JSON validation.
  2. Scheduled world snapshots: Manages .save databases under save-data/Saves/v3/ automatically, with restore points before major boss fights or raids.
  3. SteamCMD hot updates and self-healing: Monitors the latest game patches, supports smooth shutdown for updates, and restarts automatically after crashes.
