What is most frustrating about Rust? It is not the occasional raid, but finishing a full workday only to spend the night in front of a dark furnace, manually moving sulfur and crafting 5.56 ammunition and medical syringes one at a time! Modern Rust has entered the era of industrial automation and warfare across multiple dimensions: conveyors and smart pipes handle sorting, while industrial crafting benches produce ammunition continuously. If you would rather avoid huge clans and cheaters on official servers, create a private server with a few trusted friends to enjoy Rust's hardcore appeal!
Modern Rust: Changes That Free Up Your Hands
- Industrial lines automate the loop from ore to finished products: With pipe tools, storage adaptors, and industrial conveyors, your squad can return from mining and drop ore into the unloading box at the entrance. The system moves it into furnaces, then sorts the refined metal into separate large boxes. Better still, set blueprints on an Industrial Crafter and it automatically takes materials and continuously produces rifle ammunition and body armor!
- Attack Helicopters and Modular Ships bring sea and air combat: Alongside the two-seat Attack Helicopter, the game introduces player-built Modular Ships and deep-sea exploration! The pilot steers while the copilot controls rocket pods and onboard machine guns for diving attacks. Ground and coastal bases can deploy SAM air-defense sites, turning attack and defense into warfare across land, sea, and air.
- Real-time alerts with the Rust+ mobile app: Install smart switches and infrared sensors at the base, then pair the official Rust+ app. If someone blows up your front door, your phone alerts you immediately. You can also close doors or switch power remotely for a suitably high-tech experience.
A Server for Your Friends: Set Up a Squad Dedicated Server
Many groups prefer to explore industrial automation, fly attack helicopters, and fight patrol helicopters peacefully with friends rather than endure public servers. A self-hosted dedicated server is the best choice:
- Server AppID:
258550(anonymous SteamCMD download) - Core communication ports:
UDP 28015: Main game communication portTCP 28016: RCON administration (enter commands through a web or backend interface to spawn resources or kick players)TCP 28082: Rust+ mobile companion connection
- Complete setup guide: For startup scripts and parameters, see Rust Dedicated Server Setup and server.cfg Tuning.
An Easier Way to Manage Your Squad's Server
Rust servers involve a map Seed, WorldSize, and plugin extensions. We recommend our open-source LanGame Server Manager (LGSM) (GitHub: SZSLGJCOM/LanGame-Server-Manager). LGSM supports one-click Rust deployment, a visual RCON console, and scheduled rotating map backups to help build a clean, stable haven for your friends.
Playing Across Networks and Joining the Server
- With a public IP: Forward port 28015 on your router. Friends can press
F1in the game and enterclient.connect public-IP:28015in the console. - Without a public IP on rental or campus networks: Open the LINK virtual LAN feature in LanGame OS Orbit together, create an encrypted room for your squad, and enter the generated virtual IP in the F1 console. Very low latency lets you take your shots without hesitation!
